Rise ( Vi.）

从词性上来看的话「Rise」和「 Raise」就有所不同！前者是不及物动词，后者却是及物动词。词意上来说，Rise也拥有著许多意思！

A. 上升；上涨；增加

  • 例句：The sun rises in the east every day.
    （太阳每天从东边升起。）

B. 某种情绪高涨；提高音量或音调；变雀跃

  • 例句：The victims’ hope rose when they saw a rescue team coming.
    （当受害者们看见搜救队来时，他们燃起了希望。。）

C. 在社会或职业地位上提升

  • 例句：After Henry finished this surgery successfully, he rose to fame very quickly.
    （在亨利成功完成这个手术之后，他很快的声名大噪。）

D. 起身（包含起床、起立等）

  • 例句：My mom rose from the chair and walked into the dining room without a word.
    （我的母亲一语不发地从椅子上起身并走进饭厅。）

 

Raise ( Vt.）使上升

Raise 最根本的意思就是「是上升」，但是后来衍伸出许多不同的意思。就让我们一起来看看吧！

A. 引起、升高（意识）

  • 例句：The rumor about the 2012 is the end of the world raised a great deal of public panic.
    （关于2012年是世界末日的传言的在民众间造成巨大的恐慌。）

B. 举起、抬起、升到高处

  • 例句：After that horrible accident, my dad couldn’t raise his arms above his shoulder anymore.
    （在那场客怕的意外之后，我爸爸再也不能够将手举高过肩。）

C. 建立、建造起

  • 例句：My neighbor raised a fence around his garden, because he think my dog ruin his garden.
    （我的邻居在花园周围建起围篱，因为他认为我家的狗破坏了他的花园。）

D. 提出

  • 例句：After I finished my report, my boss raised some doubts about my theory.
    （在我报告完之后，我的老板对我的理论提出一些质疑。）

E. 增加数量、等级或力量

  • 例句： After my landlord re-decorate the apartment, she raised my rent.
    （在房东装修过公寓之后，她提高了我的租金。）

F. 养育；种植、饲养

  • 例句：I was born and raised in Taiwan.
    （我在台湾出生长大。）

G. 招募、筹钱

  • 例句：We‘re going to raise funds for orphans from this war.
    （我们即将为因为战争而成为孤儿的孩子们募资。）

＊Raise当名词用时的意思是加薪。

 

Arise ( Vi.）

仔细观察可以发现「Rise」和「 Arise」字面上的差异，就是字头加上一个「A」！不过要注意「Arise 」并没有上升的意思喔！

A. 发生；产生；出现

  • 例句：A serious disagreement arose between the co-workers.
    （同事之间的意见产生了严重的分歧。）

B. Arise from N. 起因于

  • 例句：Many terrible accidents arise from the carelessness, so we should pay attention on things around us to avoid bad things happened.
    （许多骇人听闻的事故都是粗心造成的，因此我们应当更加关注周遭所发生的事情，以避免坏事再度发生。）

 

Arouse ( Vt.）

「Arouse」有意「唤起意识」、「唤起感觉」的意思，除此之外，也有「激起情绪」的意思。

A. 唤起意识；唤起感觉

  • 例句：This man who wear a helmet and mask aroused the guard’s suspicions.
    （这个戴口罩和安全帽的男人引起了警卫的怀疑。）

B. 激起情绪

  • 例句：Trump has an ability to influence the audience and to arouse the masses.
    （川普能够影响听众并激起人群情绪。）
